Make Muskegon Lake No-Wake

Make Muskegon Lake No-Wake
The Issue
Lake Michigans most beautiful deep-water port, Muskegon lake, is being over-run with too many dangerous high-speed power boats. With the proposal of even more marinas, condos and private docks being built over the next few years, the problem will become even worse for lake users, the sailing community, and what's left of the shoreline from the wake created by these large and over-powered boats.
Power boats and high speed fishing vessels routinely leave Fishermans Landing, Snug Harbor and Great Lakes Marina after leaving the exit buoys with throttles wide open, throwing their wake for hundreds of feet with dangerous utter disregard for sailboats or lightly powered watercraft. Boats on moorings, or anchored in the lake are thrown about at all hours of the night and day. It's even worse for anyone anchored overnight at the state campground, because the amount of high speed traffic between 3am and 6am from fisherman is overwhelming and potentially dangerous.
This proposal would ask the City of Muskegon, the DNR, and our local congressional representative to consider making the lake from the channel mouth into muskegon to a line from about where the Milwaukee clipper is to Point marine a no-wake zone.
