Miami Design Preservation League started this petition to City of Miami Beach

The historic Deauville Hotel, located at 6701 Collins Ave in Miami Beach, Florida, was designed in 1957 by noted Miami Modern architect Melvin Grossman. The hotel was the site of the Beatles iconic1964 performance on the Ed Sullivan show which helped start Beatlemania in the USA, and 4 Beatles songs were composed or worked on there during their stay. Additionally, other notables who made a mark on the Deauville included Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. (at a time when Black performers weren’t widely welcomed in Miami Beach), as well as President John F. Kennedy.  And as recently as 2008, jazz legend Arturo Sandoval had one of the few jazz clubs on Miami Beach, The Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club at the Deauville Beach
Resort, which operated until March of 2008.

Unfortunately, the hotel has fallen under difficult times and has deteriorated to an unsafe condition under its current ownership. It remains shuttered and neglected, leading to a major economic depression of the surrounding North Beach commercial area. Reports of pieces of the building falling off have been shared by locals and visitors alike. What was once a thriving community hub is now a sad and empty vestige of its former glory.

The City of Miami Beach has taken legal action against the property owners to bring the building up to compliance in terms of life safety and security.

We support the City of Miami Beach's efforts to ensure that the Deauville Hotel is brought back to life in a safe way and to restore the values of good stewardship, economic vibrancy, and historic preservation which reflects our tropical, urban, historic community.

HELP! us save this important part of mid-century architectural history and a true Beatles landmark.
