Petition to Save Fletcher Creek

Petition to Save Fletcher Creek

The Issue

The concerned citizens of Trafalgar Village and the surrounding area of Memphis are fighting to save Fletcher Creek from the construction of another “super Wal-Mart” that borders the Tennessee Imperiled Waterway of Fletcher Creek and is within the FEMA protected 100-year flood plain. There are already 2 Super Wal-Mart’s within an 8 mile radius. This construction will degrade the land, displace or possibly kill remaining wildlife (migrating Canadian Geese, deer, aquatic species etc…), and contaminate our Artesian Well Water that supplies some of the cleanest municipal water in the country. How is it possible to ignore a The Common Open Space clause of The Shelby County Unified Development Code 6.2.2 within the 100-year Flood-plain and over-ride possible violations in permitting laws? If this is allowed to happen, who will fight to save Fletcher Creek, our neighborhood, and clean water for residents of Memphis, along with protecting our animal and plant friends residing in the Fletcher Creek basin, and residents effected by the “redrawing of FEMA designated 100-year-flood-plain?

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to save Fletcher Creek, save our Artesian Well Water, save the common open-space priority, while protecting endangered wildlife that enhance our quality of life.
