Stop the ban of roosters by the city of Kent, WA.

The Issue

Please help! The city of Kent is proposing a ban on roosters because one person was caught raising rooster for cockfighting! There are lots of rural areas in Kent that have roosters to protect their flock. If it passes anyone with a rooster will have only 30 days to remove them. Most likely going to the freezer or fighting!

Residents can send comments about the proposed ban by May 15 to the City of Kent Planning Services Department, 220 Fourth Ave. S., Kent, WA, 98032.

Signing a petition may get more comments to the planning commission by the 15th. Pls sign this petition.

Reasons people keep roosters

Chickens, even those who have been living together for years, will sometimes squabble or pick on those lower in the pecking order. Having a rooster around does seem to keep peace within the flock. Also, in the absence of a rooster, one hen will often assume the dominant role and become a bit of a bully.

One of the main reason people end up getting a rooster is because they want fertile eggs. This is a huge benefit for homesteaders, as they will be able to replace their own flock without having to buy new stock.
