Keep the culture and mascot of Keller High School

Keep the culture and mascot of Keller High School
The Issue
It has come to many peoples attention that Keller High School is under attack by Haven Gonzales, a student of keller high school, and her ragtag group of individual that fail to understand the historical significance of the Indian “mascot.”
The truth is that it is more than just a mascot. Keller High School was established in 1913, and after negotiating a land deal with the Comanche tribe at the time, our founding fathers thought it be prudent to name their districts mascot "Indians", in order to preserve the history they had with the Comanche.
Ironically, these people seek to erase Native American history in order to seem more politically correct. Typically, those who erase or alter history are usually on the wrong side of it.
The hate mob that surrounds Ms. Gonzales have begun to call those that don’t believe in her rhetoric “racists” and “white supremacists,” along with other meaningless insults. Ms. Gonzales herself has labeled those who oppose her as having “worms for brains.” She has even gone so far as to attempt to kick a man out of college for voicing his own opinion on the matter.
By using fear tactics and ad hominem strikes on people that disagree with her beliefs, she has lost all credibility in this matter. It is your right as an american citizen to be able to voice your opinion without compromise without fear of judgement.
Another problem that Ms. Gonzales fails to realize is cost of rebranding and getting rid of the traditions of an entire high school, along with other Keller High School Indian themed things outside of Keller High. In keller, there is a water tower that is labeled “Keller, home of the Indians.” Refurbishing and repainting the old water tower can cost up to hundreds of thousands of dollars; money that can be put elsewhere in the community. This isn’t including the money that would go towards designing a new mascot and purging everything Native American related. It’s almost certain that Keller High School would rather fund staff, teachers, and security and educate students like me instead of kow towing to a hate mob and funneling unnecessary amounts of money into something that overly offended people deemed “problematic.”
If you wish to change Keller High School’s mascot, then by all means that is your opinion and you have that right to have it. However, I will be standing with my school. I am standing with Keller High School. KEEP KELLER HIGH SCHOOL’S MASCOT!
