Rebuilding Ops Community Centre for the Future

Rebuilding Ops Community Centre for the Future
The Issue
The City of Kawartha Lakes Council is deciding on the future of the Ops Community Centre. As concerned members of the community we are asking for your support to get the Ops Community Centre upgraded for our next generations. By adding your name to the petition, in support of Rebuilding the Ops Community Centre for the Future, will be presented to Council on their upcoming meeting on April 20. The petition will need to be submitted by April 9.
The Ops Community Centre was built by the Ops Community in 1974 and has been home to many organizations over the years along with being the center for socializing in the former Township of Ops. This is a Community Centre that brings not only our own community together but has also allowed us to meet many great people from outside of our community along the way. The Community Centre is good for the health and wellbeing of our community not only through exercise, but more importantly through socializing; something we have a better understanding of because of Covid-19. I remember the debate about what to name the facility in 1974. That generation got it right; it is more than just an arena, it is the center of our community.
This petition is not about shutting down any other Community Centre to keep Ops open. All communities were able to support their Community Centres prior to amalgamation. We need council to choose that all Community Centres are a priority.
