The Issue

The Huxley, Iowa city council is currently considering a change to the city's fireworks ordinance.  The ordinance currently allows for 7 days (July 1-7) of discharging fireworks, 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.. A group of concerned citizens have asked the city council to adjust the number of days from 7 to 3 days.  To be supportive of all Huxley residents, we are not asking to ban fireworks, only to decrease the number of days fireworks are permitted. The dates suggested by the city council were July 3-5, the times allowed for discharging fireworks would not be changed.

This ordinance change has been requested for multiple reasons. Primary reasons for the request, are to support our veterans that suffer from PTSD, to limit extreme noise exposure to children and adults living with sensory processing sensitivities, to lessen stress and anxiety on our pets, and to lessen the negative impact fireworks have on our environment.

The city council surveyed all of the neighboring communities with regard to their fireworks ordinances, as well as days and times allowed for discharging of fireworks.  It was determined that Huxley currently allows more days for fireworks than other nearby communities.

It is our hope, that the Huxley city council, would choose to more closely align their fireworks ordinance with the neighboring communities by allowing fireworks on July 3-5.

If you are in support of changing to 3 days of fireworks (July 3-5), are 18 years or older, and live within the city limits of Huxley, IA, please sign this petition and share with your Huxley neighbors. Thank you!
