Bring Back The Hialeah Fire Cadet Program

Bring Back The Hialeah Fire Cadet Program
The Issue
The Hialeah Fire Cadets is an organization dedicated to preparing and educating young aspiring firefighters by giving them basic fire and emergency medicine skills, as well as disciplining them in preparation for what is the paramilitary style that is the fire department. The Cadet program is open to young male and female participants from ages 15 to 20 that reside in the City of Hialeah and are interested in a career in or along the lines of Fire Rescue. The cadets volunteer regularly, help represent the city’s fire department, assist the public whenever possible, ride along on fire and rescue units, and train on a regular basis.
City of Hialeah Fire Cadets are required to be respectful, humble, unselfish, and disciplined. Cadets have a rule book to abide by and wear the name of the City with pride and respect. Cadets are also expected to look and behave sharp and on point consistently; in uniform, cleaned up and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
The Hialeah Fire Cadet Program also works hand in hand with the Hialeah Firefighters’ Benevolent Association. The Benevolent is an organization under the fire department which is run by firefighters who do volunteer work on a regular basis in order to serve the community, provide safety through education, and to maintain a positive relationship between the civilians of the city and the city’s fire department. “The Benevolent reaches out to deserving families during the holidays, and they also answer the call for those suffering from disasters of any scale. They also help provide valuable fire safety and prevention education for the residents of Hialeah as well. Whether it's a prepared Thanksgiving meal, toys for children at Christmas, or replacing necessities burned in a fire, the Benevolent does what it can to help support the community.” The City of Hialeah Fire Cadets are present at all Benevolent events and volunteer with them. They distribute goods and services, assist civilians, provide medical attention if necessary, teach basic fire safety techniques and first aid knowledge to civilians, and much more. The busiest volunteering time period for the Cadets is in the holiday season, when they and the Benevolent serve the city through obstacle courses for the children, making appearances at nearby hospitals and parks, assisting in toy and food drives, and sometimes even participating in walks for certain causes.
Unfortunately, the program was terminated indefinitely. The City of Hialeah Fire Department Cadet Program is a great asset to the local community, government, and the public safety and image of the City. It shapes young men and women into more disciplined, educated, and giving individuals and prepares them for a professional future. Even if they may not go into the fire service, these young adults have been prepared to handle anything that comes in their path to success and keeps the love for serving one’s community alive in the young population. All in all, the fire cadet program shapes the youth of the community all while giving back to it and consistently helping out and educating the public. Please help us save our program.
