Hi, SoBi!

My name is Dayna MacDonald. I'm a 25 year old Social Work student here in Hamilton, and a pretty frequent user of the SoBi bikes in the downtown core. If you aren't familiar with SoBi, they are Hamilton's community bike share program. You can sign up for an account on their website (or use the smart phone app) for a very reasonable price, and choose a plan, or pay per ride. When I first saw the SoBi bikes being installed downtown I was extremely curious as to how they worked, and if I would ever benefit from them. One day a friend and I were downtown, and decided to sign up and give them a try. I was amazed by the comfort and quality of the bicycles, and how much we loved cycling. I mean, I hadn't been on a bike since in almost a decade, and it was incredible to find that I had been missing out on such fun.

Then, I got thinking. Why does Hamilton downtown, Westdale, Hamilton Centre and EVEN Dundas have them... but not Stoney Creek? As someone who has a new found love for taking to the road on a bike, I think my community would benefit GREATLY from having SoBi bikes within in. I believe that SoBi could bring change to the community of Stoney Creek in many ways. SoBi bikes could create new ways for families, individuals or friends to exercise close to home. Here in Stoney Creek, there are lots of places to go and see (including beautiful waterfalls and great monuments and heritage), SoBi would give us a way to get there that is fun, active, and sustainable. Futhermore, many people who live in Stoney Creek commute to work daily, and a SoBi ride would be a great way to aid in a better commute. Lastly, this could create more revenue for SoBi to bring back to the community through updates to the system. So, no matter the reason for riding, SoBi would be a great way to get to where you want. 

Please, SoBi, bring us bikes!
