Keep Hospital Laundry Jobs in Sudbury

Keep Hospital Laundry Jobs in Sudbury
The Issue
It is currently proposed by Health Sciences North to terminate linen laundering services being supplied by Sudbury Hospital Services. In addition to severely impacting 38 families in the City there will also be severe economic impact on the City. The reasons given are to save $500 000 per year in cost or 0.11% of the operating budget for Health Sciences North. We don't believe the major impacts to the people and the community can be justified by such miniscule savings. We are petitioning to have the entire proposal reviewed open to the people in Sudbury and other opportunities to effect savings be explored instead.
We are hereby petitioning the City of Greater Sudbury Council to direct City management to prepare an economic impact statement for the proposed termination of services and send a letter to the Ontario Legislature that these terminations be halted. We are also petitioning local MPP's and the Provincial Legislature to represent not only the workers but also the public in the ridings that will be negatively impacted by the terminations and economic impacts of those terminations.
