Life is choices.  The life and future of the City of Gardner is no different.  In an ideal world, city funds would be available to preserve the precious historical landmarks in Gardner, many of which were donated by those who wanted to enrich the lives of our residents with land and buildings.  But it is not an ideal world and difficult choices are asked of us.  What’s best for our families, our children especially, and for our city?

Some of our proudest moments have come when we watched our children play their best on the city fields, play hockey at the rink and swim in our famous Greenwood Pool.  The focus of this message will be the Pool.  It was donated by the Greenwood family, even heater by a special connection to the Heywood Wakefield heating system.  What a visionary donation!  It was a gift to all of us for many years.  We believe if a poll were taken, almost everyone in the city would say they had used the pool.  Our swimmers have done the Greenwoods proud as they added trophy after trophy to the collection.

After years of enjoying the generosity of the gift of the Greenwoods, it is now in disrepair, requiring major work to bring it back to glory.  It is time for the many generations who enjoyed the pool to step up to the plate and urge support for the committee that is seeking a solution for funding that will let the tradition continue on Park Street.  Grants are available.  Remember life is choices.  Speak up!  Ask the Mayor and City Council to support the pool repair and fight for the grants.  Make a choice to preserve one of our treasures.
