Allow Scooters in Fremont Skatepark

Allow Scooters in Fremont Skatepark
The Issue
Fremont Skatepark is arguably one of the Bay Area's best skateparks, but being a scooter rider, I and many others cannot access this space, simply because of what we ride. Scootering has grown into a huge sport, with millions of participants worldwide, and none of them can ride this park. California state law now recognizes scooters as a "wheeled recreational device" which can be used in skateparks. However, when some of my friends and I showed up to the skatepark at around 8 am on a Friday morning, we were kicked out within five minutes. The ranger who kicked us out claimed that Fremont skatepark had special rules. Fremont's ban of bicycles and scooters impacts hundreds of riders who travel from afar to visit the skatepark only to be kicked out in minutes. This forces these people to ride in the streets instead, where they may endanger pedestrians. Athletes who are forced to ride in the streets are often kicked out there, forcing to spend time inside, instead of getting important physical activity. This rule is unfair because it segregates the participants of two very similar sports, both of which are for the same purpose: fun.
