Stop Further Development on the Green Belt at Broomhills, Edinburgh

Stop Further Development on the Green Belt at Broomhills, Edinburgh
The Issue
Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and the Trustees of the Catchelraw Trust (Mortonhall) wish to extend the current building development along the crop field bordering Frogston Road.
Some reasons why this should not be given permission to go ahead:
No adequate infrastructure:
- This area is at saturation point with new build housing. So much green space is currently being built on various sites across Liberton, Gilmerton, Burdiehouse and Fairmilehead. The area within 2 miles of Broomhills in particular is suffering an explosion of construction sites.
- The local roads (particularly Frogston and Burdiehouse Roads) cannot cope with the current level of traffic without adding several hundred more households of traffic into the mix. All of the above plus the estates recently built or under construction in Bilston, Damhead, Penicuik, Roslin, Rosewell and Bonnyrigg have created a substantial impact on the Kaimes and Frogston areas with the huge volume of residential and commuter traffic it adds to the area on a daily basis.
- There are woefully inadequate numbers of medical practices, dental surgeries and schools, particularly secondary provision.
Wildlife, History and Green Belt
- Broomhills is home to a vast range of wildlife from hares to roe deer including protected animals (badgers, bats, buzzards). The fields in question are part of the rich heritage of the area and are a remnant of what was once designated Green Belt land - land which local residents were promised would remain so.
Allowing these fields to be built on and increasing the already critical strain on the overstretched infrastructure, as well as endangering wildlife which goes against all current wildlife charity campaigns, means that a line now needs to be drawn. Permission for this development must be denied.
Public meeting to be held at Gilmerton Society Hall on the 25th October 2019 from 14:00-19:00.
