Hello, As you know the Council voted for option A. The past year has not been wasted: we have achieved significant modifications - more parking/loading for shops, Roseburn Place and Gardens kept open. If you want to see see the final designs- click on this link to download Roseburn Option A http://www.kidsnotsuits.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/RoseburnOptionA.pdf . There are two for Haymarket - under Option 1C (http://www.kidsnotsuits.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Haymarket-Option-1C.pdf ) , the taxi feeder rank is 13m long and on the south side of Morrison St, in Option 1D http://www.kidsnotsuits.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Haymarket-Option-1D.pdf) , it’s 30m long and on the north side. I am afraid I do not have the West Coates designs at present. I tried to summarise all the misleading information that has come from the Council in a letter which was published in the Evening News a week ago, which you can read attached. I have just sent it to the Cllrs that made the decision the Friday before, along with an email pointing out that contrary to Council claims the Roseburn pavement width is to be reduced, on the north side, in order to accommodate the track. The Council need to obtain Traffic Regulation Orders now, before the work can proceed - and we will object to them. The track is likely to be installed in 18 months time: by objecting, we can delay this. For this we need really good arguments that hit the point with force. We also need legal advice and help as, if we can get to an enquiry, that would take it out of the hands of the City. If you know of any Court Solicitors, Advocates or transport engineers who would help, please let me know... I won't be in touch again via Change.org. If you want to receive any more updates, please email me at postmaster@roseburn32.plus.com and I'll add you to the mailing list Happy Christmas, Pete Gregson From: Peter Gregson [mailto:postmaster@roseburn32.plus.com] Sent: 20 December 2016 23:45 To: 'Lesley Hinds' ; 'Adam.McVey@edinburgh.gov.uk' ; 'Robert Aldridge' ; 'nigel.bagshaw@edinburgh.gov.uk' ; nick.cook@edinburgh.gov.uk Cc: Paul Edie ; Frank Ross ; Jeremy Balfour ; jyellowlees@blueyonder.co.uk; Jane Smart ; Rosanne Brown ; Helen Gillard Subject: Misleading Statements on Cycle Track Dear Cllrs Hinds, McVey, Aldridge, Bagshaw, Cook I should like to take issue with a statement in the Evening News published following Friday’s meeting at http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/final-route-for-new-edinburgh-cycle-path-given-go-ahead-1-4319683 which they say came from the Council. It says “There will now be 24-hour loading on Roseburn Terrace, extra parking, wider pavements on both sides of Roseburn Terrace…” Whilst obviously we all know the first part is wrong in that there will not be extra parking, but 40% less parking and loading, it is the second part that bothers me. The shopping area extending from the old Bank building to the Dentist on the north side extends for 70 metres. All along its length, in order to accommodate the cycle track, the pavement is going to being reduced from a width of 2.45 to 2.35m, which is a total loss of 7 square metres of pavement. It is this area in front of our shops that the Community Council have been calling for widening for many years, as per the Roseburn Action Plan, published in October 2014. Instead the Council is making it smaller. The only part being widened from 1.9m to 2.35m is tiny, under 2.5m long and lies west of the pedestrian crossing, well away from the shops, and unused, pedestrians preferring to go into Murrayfield by Murrayfield Place which is more open. This tiny extra piece of pavement totals 1 sq m. So Roseburn is losing 7 sq m where it needs it most, in order to get 1 sq m where it does not need it all. The pavement is, generally, being narrowed along the north side. To pretend otherwise is to ignore the facts and the statement to the press is misleading. I am copying in four members of the MCC to this email as they need to know this too. This feels to me to be yet one more example of the Council pretending something about the cycle track which is not true. I complained about other misrepresentations arising from last Thursday’s Convener’s letter in the Evening News today, notably the claim the plan would make it easier to take public transport into town. In my letter, below, I complain about the loss of the eastbound bus lane which will disappear on arrival and exit from Roseburn, the most congested part of the route. (Although it is partly being retained in Wester Coates, further along towards Haymarket, after Wester Coates Road.) Overall the eastbound lane is being reduced by 694m to 288m. The westbound lane is being reduced from 813m to 167m. To lose 70% of our bus lanes is clearly not going make it easier to take public transport into town. The letter is headed “Facts lost in debate over Roseburn bike link” and this is one more of those. Some others are outlined below. I wonder if all you members of the Future Transport Working Group were aware of the narrowed pavement and other “lost facts” when you made your decision on Friday? Might you now wish to reconsider? At the very least, can you clarify on which basis it will be judged a success or failure at the 12-month review? Yours sincerely, Pete Gregson, The Roseburn Vision Group
