The fight to save future lives! Vehicle speed control on Rimpau by Centennial High School
The Issue
Join me in the fight for saving future lives!
My close friend, Benjamin “Bean Dip” Montalvo, was in a fatal hit and run accident on his bicycle on Rimpau Ave right next to Centennial High School. This happened the night of June 11, 2020.
This street, although being one that occupies a high school, has absolutely no bike lanes, is EXTREMELY dark at night, and the only speed limit sign has been covered by a utility pole.
I am starting the fight to have ANYTHING done that can keep this tragedy from happening to others. WE NEED A PERMANENT SPEED RADAR SIGN INSTALLED ON RIMPAU AVE!! We need a bike lane and more lighting for children that feel safe riding their bikes near their alma mater!! We need the school speed limit sign to be apparent and visible at all times!
Join me in the fight! Together we can make a change to save future lives, our children and our community!
**UPDATE FROM CITY OF CORONA 6/25/20**
Hope you are doing well. Here is a brief summary on what we have done and plan to do.
We have requested for the school speed sign to be relocated in front of the utility pole, this will be done by the end of the week.
The speed data collection has been scheduled for next week, hope to have the results a few days after that. That will push us into the end of next week. Once we review the data we will determine if a dynamic speed feedback sign is an appropriate solution. This data will be shared with our Corona PD for additional enforcement along this route.
Rimpau is a bike route from Magnolia to Ontario. Our team is reviewing that segment and will add any signs and supplemental markings on the roadway. We should have that completed in the next few weeks contingent on contractor availability.
Thank you for your patience while we explore further ways to address these concerns.
