Remove Confederate Statue from Hilltop

Remove Confederate Statue from Hilltop

The Issue

During this time of great social introspection, education, and change, it is paramount to send positive messages to our community.  One indelible way to deploy this message would be to remove the confederate monument at Camp Chase Cemetery in West Columbus, Ohio.

the confederate soldier statue was vandalized in 2017, and then replaced- with costs estimated to be at least $100,000 between replacement and security. Why are we willing to protect these monuments at great expense, when we cannot establish change to protect our Black community.

consider the filling expert from a wise article -“A bronze statue of a rebel soldier was toppled and decapitated on Aug. 22, 2017, at Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Two days later, the VA contracted with the Westmoreland Protection Agency, based in Sunrise, Florida, to provide unarmed security guards at Camp Chase and two other cemeteries — North Alton Confederate Cemetery in Alton, Illinois, and Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, New York. The 30-day contract cost $91,357, according to the documents.”

I have looked for resources on neighborhood groups to work on removal of this monument, and found none.  We do not need this monument as a tribute to history.  We need to teach accurate history to our children and not glorify symbolism displayed by these monuments. Please sign this petition.

thank you!
