City of Chelsea (Michigan) City Council: Support AATA Chelsea-Ann Arbor Express Route

The Issue

The City of Chelsea has been approached about contributing $15,000 to next year's AATA budget. This would go to wards helping fund the Chelsea-Ann Arbor Express Route. The University of Michigan and some large downtown Ann Arbor employers are picking up the lion’s share of the route - with the cities (Chelsea and Canton) contributing $15,000 apiece. The City Council has received this request from AATA just recently - so, the $15,000 is not included in the Chelsea budget at this point in time. The undersigned urge the Council to appropriate for this expenditure. Without this minimal support from the City Council it is quite likely the route will be cancelled. Chelsea City Council votes on the budget on Tuesday May 14. This commuter bus has steadily increased in ridership and now has become a necessity for a very large number of Chelsea families. Riders who live outside town are brought to it so that they can use the bus. This service has increased the quality of life for many, represents a selling point for the City of Chelsea and is an investment for the future.
