Change Halloween Trick-or-Treat times
This petition made change with 314 supporters!
There is no city ordinance dictating Chelsea trick-or-treat times. To the best of our knowledge, times are based on a request by the local Kiwanas Club to accommodate their Halloween party/costume contest which is scheduled from 6:15 pm to 6:45 pm. According to the City, you can trick-or-treat any time, but they broadcast the times to be 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
We are requesting that the City broadcast the times for trick-or-treating to be 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm for the following reasons:
1. To be more in line with other community trick-or-treat times (• Ann Arbor: 5-8 p.m • Chelsea: 4-6 p.m. • Dexter: 5:30-7:30 p.m. • Loch Alpine subdivision: 5-7 p.m. • Milan: 6-8 p.m. • Saline: 6-8 p.m. • Ypsilanti: 5-8 p.m. • Ypsilanti Township: 6-8 p.m.)
2. To relieve the burden of parents having to get off work early and speeding home to get their children in their costumes and ready for the 4:00 trick-or-treating start time. (The kids CAN'T wait. It's like a horse race; the bell rings, the gates open, and at 3:59 there are kids at our door.)
3. To reduce the number of trick-or-treaters from outlying towns that come to Chelsea first, then return to their town for a second round of trick-or-treating. This would also reduce the amount of moving vehicles and congested street traffic in popular trick-or-treating neighborhoods (e.g.: Chelsea Ridge).
4. To make it more fun for the young and young at heart, seeing lit Jack O' lanterns and houses decorated in the spooky festive fair that only comes to life after dark, trick-or-treating with the ghosts and goblins just as they do in nieghboring Dexter.
If you are a Chelsea resident that would like to change the trick-or-treat time to 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., please take a moment to sign this online petition.
