Kylie Hand started this petition to City of Chanute Commission and

The City of Chanute currently has a city ordinance discriminating against and banning the breed of pit bulls and is wrongfully convicting good and responsible dog owners. The law is not benefiting anyone and only harming both pit bulls and their owners.

Pitbull's are deeply misunderstood around the world based on people's lack of knowledge on this specific breed. Yes, they are known for their "intimidating" muscular, stocky build, but Pit Bulls are also a very loyal, people-oriented breed that thrive as part of the family. They are affectionate with both adults and children. A common well known fact about pit bulls is that they are actually known as the "nanny dog". They are the most protective breed for children. Pit bulls are not aggressive or "viscous"  by nature. Like children, dogs are taught and raised under the responsibility of their owner. Every dog learns behaviors and actions through they way they are raised or taught.

Banning a specific breed in a town like Chanute doesn't do anything positive for the community. This stigma already created for this breed isn't fair to the 100's of loving, well mannered pit bulls that currently reside in Chanute. How is it fair to ban one breed when countless other large breeds like, Mastiffs, Rottweilers, German Shepherds, wolf dogs, etc. are allowed in the city of Chanute? We shouldn't be judging a book by its cover and making decisions out of irrational fears.

A ban like this, results in families potentially losing their loving pet forever. I recently received a citation for "harboring an illegal pit bull" in the city of Chanute. I was told my sweet, Pit bull Juliette, was not welcome in Chanute and she needed to leave. I was then forced to remove my sweet Juliette from her home and put her in a temporary home outside of city limits. She was supposed to be there for one week. She wasn't even there for 3 days when my Pit bull was tragically ran over and killed by a farmer. One week until my baby girl and I were supposed to move into our new house. (which happens to be outside city limits). Removing Juliette from her safe, stable home in the city of Chanute resulted in her death. If the City of Chanute did not have this ban restricting pit bulls, my sweet girl would have never been put in this position.

I am completely heartbroken and do not want another dog owner, or pit bull to go through something like this. If you feel as passionately as I do or just a dog lover in general, please sign this and help stop the discrimination against pit bulls in Chanute, KS.
