Burlington Dogs and Dog Families, Need your Support

Burlington Dogs and Dog Families, Need your Support
The Issue
With Burlington Ontario winning one of the Best Places to Live in Canada, several times over and even still ranking in the top 3, it is not surprising that a large portion of its population are loving, kind-hearted and responsible Pet Owners.
Our Dog Community is large and vibrant and takes great pride in it’s City being so accepting and accommodating to the Dog Community.
Examples of such welcoming accommodations are:
-The doggie water fountains at the base of each "human" water fountain along the Spencer Smith Waterfront.
-If you frequent the Downtown core in the Summer, you will find that every single business has a water bowl out front for our furry friends, while their Humans are enjoying our city’s charms and supporting our local businesses.
Although these are wonderful additions to the Community and do offer a feeling of acceptance to Dog Owners, the need for safe and engaging activity spaces and more support for the development of them, is growing every day.
If you compare Burlington to other neighboring Cities, we pale in comparison with what we offer our Dogs in terms of Health and Wellness Spaces, in that we have only three sanctioned “Dog Parks” and they are very baron and ill maintained. Hamilton has 10 options, Oakville 8, Mississauga 10 and well…. you get the picture.
Its time we speak up for our Dogs and their Wellness.
Some Burlington Dog Residents have decided to take such initiatives on and from the perspective of an NPO that will work collaboratively with the city and other supporting Organizations, to not only action the additions of new areas, but manage and oversee the entire Projects from development and design, to maintenance. We will endeavor to raise funds periodically throughout the year to help offset some of the financial burden to the City, to ensure safe, fun, creative Activity Spaces for our dogs.
We are currently at the stage of collecting the supportive data necessary to meet the requirements of application for a new Off Leash Area at the Corner of Drury and New St.
We have put together a plan for other areas to be considered and with varying degrees of creative activity, but this petition is for the support of the Drury/New St. Site.
All other criteria have been met and we now just need your support via a Signature.
If you are a Dog Owner who values the Health & Wellness benefits of Off Leash actives, social opportunities and exploratory spaces, then please consider signing this petition for our 1st of many new “Leash Free Activity Space” developments for the Burlington Dog Community.
