Rancho Communities Protection Agency started this petition to city of burbank and

The proposed developments will have significant impacts to our rancho communities of the Glendale Riverside Rancho, Burbank Rancho Equestrian District and the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

The demolition of Pickwick for 98-condominiums and demolition of Circle-K Stables for six 2-story office buildings, will increase local traffic, putting equestrians, businesses, and customers at risk of injury and fatality, including a liability risk to adjacent cities. First, this will impact the longevity of our rancho communities, as horse communities. Secondly, these proposed projects will combatively add between 2,950 to 3740 trips per day (including customers, residents, workers, visitors, deliveries, trash, mail, utility, landscapers, maintenance, etc.), on Main Street, Riverside Drive and Mariposa.

What does added traffic do to equestrians? Our urban horse communities are sensitive to increases in traffic. We share the road with drivers and bicyclists, and as equestrians have to follow the same rules of the road while on our horse, but we are aware, horses are prey animals. They scare easily. A sudden sound, flash of light, movement, a car horn, a loud engine, a speeding vehicle, a vehicle with loud music, a barking dog, a fast bicyclist riding quickly, can panic a horse. Making it buck the rider and run away from whatever scared it. The most experienced rider on a well-mannered horse can struggle controlling their horse and be at risk when a horse reacts to fear.

This increases an increased injury and fatality risk to the residential equestrians, the general public and to animals, increasing liability to neighboring cities and businesses. Additional development further destroys our horse community. In 1961, there were 40 stables, in 1986, 15 stables, in 2021, only 1 in Burbank and 5 in Glendale.
