Bike Repair Station at the Summit Reservoir

Bike Repair Station at the Summit Reservoir

As an avid cyclist in the east bay, and a rider on the El Cerrito High School mountain bike team, I find myself spending a lot of time at the Summit Reservoir. Most of my rides take me to the Reservoir before venturing further onto local trails and roads. This is a popular rest stop, and meeting place for many cyclists in my area. So many riders have experienced the need for a pump or multi tool right before heading out further on their ride, and the Reservoir is often the location of these last minute fixes. I propose a sort of bike repair station be constructed. Equipped with several Allen key sizes, a pump, spoke wrenches, and other tools, this station could be beneficial for many riders for years to come. I have personally experienced the feeling of arriving at the reservoir minutes before embarking on a group ride, and realizing my tire pressure is to low. In those times, a repair station can mean the difference between finishing your ride, or turning around to head back home. These stations can be found throughout the bay area at popular trail intersections with high bike traffic, and are greatly appreciated by the local riding community. Signing this petition can show just how high the need is for this kind of bike infrastructure in the East Bay, and the Berkeley/ Kensington trail system.
I plan to Present the signatures to the Kensington and Berkeley city council, and try to get permission and some funding to construct this repair station. I’m order to cut down on costs, and potentially make it more appealing to the city council, it would be great if a local bike shop were willing to donate some of the bike tools needed for this project. Getting this project done could benefit generations of riders to come, and be an all around win for the cyclists who pass through this intersection regularly.
