We, the citizens of the City of Ellis, KS, petition the City Council of the City of Ellis, KS, to draft and pass an ordinance that amends and changes the deadline date of June 15th for the sale and distribution of fireworks within the city limits of Ellis, KS. Thus allowing the City Council and the citizens of Ellis the opportunity to evaluate and make good judgement regarding favorable weather conditions for the discharge of fireworks and opportunity for organizations to plan for the sale of fireworks to aid in their fundraising efforts.

In light of the recent rains, the conditions are more favorable now for the discharge of fireworks, than they have been in years past. Our local businesses deserve the opportunity to profit from revenue circulated from the sale of all items related to family gatherings surrounding the celebration of our nation's independence. Our local NFP organizations and clubs have struggled in recent years due to the lack of fundraising options. One of them being the sale and distribution of fireworks. We understand that some of the council members have personal feelings against the discharge and sale of fireworks within the city limits of Ellis. However, their personal preference should not in any way determine or influence what is collectively and wholly in the best interest of the citizens of the community of Ellis.

Thus Legalizeing the discharge of fireworks within the city limits of Ellis Kansas on the Fourth of July this year in patriotic celebration of our nations independence.
