The Oran, Missouri City Hall building is scheduled to be demolished in the coming week.  This historic stone structure was built in the early 1940s, and served as the Oran City Hall for more than 70 years.  The building resembles other public buildings constructed as part of the Works Progress Administration, an agency developed as part of President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal.  

The concern is that citizens of the community were not adequately consulted before a decision was made to destroy the historic structure.  Numerous citizens have posted their concerns on the City of Oran Facebook page, after it was announced that the demolition would begin.  While we congratulate the City Council, and the mayor, on their recent acquisition of a newer City Hall building, we ask that demolition on the historic city hall be halted until the whole citizenry be consulted.  Many options exist that could ensure the building is preserved, and/or adaptively reused.
