Alexandria pollution diet strategy threatens a rare wetland and more but Mayor Justin Wilson of Alexandria calls it an "efficient" way to help the Bay.
The Taylor Run stream "restoration" project threatens a healthy wetland seep that sustains a lot of rare plants. Alexandria wants to bring in fill and construct an artificial floodplain which they say will help reduce water pollution and ECA believes will harm this wetland and NOT create cleaner water for the Bay.
Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson claims, however, that stream restoration is the most "efficient" way to meet the new environmental regulations. We think that the estimated benefits are unproven and unreliable and that the project will cause adverse harm to the park's biodiversity. Surely, there are less damaging alternatives that are also more helpful to the Chesapeake Bay too.
