Honor Author/Activist Jane Jacobs on a US Postage Stamp

The Issue

Author of The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1961) and activist in the cause of livable and sustainable communities, Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) is an inspiration to people around the world. Her books on cities and economies have been translated into many languages and have influenced such fields as architecture, city and regional planning, cultural geography, landscape architecture, sociology, urban design, and others—in addition to economics and urban studies. She is a hero to many and is worthy of the honor, with the 100th anniversary of her birth approaching in 2016. In accordance with the Stamp Subject Selection Criteria, Jacobs has "had significant impact on American history or culture." The undersigned thank you for your consideration.
