Citizens’ Petition for a Third-Party Audit of Milton Public Schools' Financial Records
The Issue
Citizens’ Petition for a Third-Party Audit of Milton Public Schools' Financial Records
To the Milton School Committee and Town Officials:
We, the undersigned residents and taxpayers of the Town of Milton, hereby submit this petition demanding immediate action to ensure transparency and accountability in the financial management of the Milton Public Schools.
Since 2019, the school department has managed significant public funds, and as concerned citizens, we believe it is in the best interest of the community to conduct an independent, third-party audit of all financial records, budgets, and expenditures over this period.
A thorough and impartial audit will:
Ensure that taxpayer dollars have been allocated and spent responsibly;
Identify any financial mismanagement, inefficiencies, or irregularities;
Restore public confidence in the integrity of Milton Public Schools’ financial oversight;
Provide clear and transparent financial data to inform future budget decisions;
Examine the allocation and expenditure of the special education budget to ensure that funds are being used effectively to support students with special needs; and
Provide a full itemization of the school budget so taxpayers can see exactly how funds are being distributed and spent.
We urge the Milton School Committee to immediately authorize a comprehensive audit by an independent accounting firm with expertise in public sector financial reviews. The results of this audit should be made publicly available in full, with a detailed summary presented to Milton residents.
By signing this petition, we affirm our commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency in our school system. We expect our elected officials to act in the best interest of students, parents, and taxpayers by ensuring that all financial practices adhere to the highest standards of accountability.
Respectfully submitted,
