Citizens of the European Union for the United States of Europe

The Issue

During the The Fascist Regime in Italy, a number of opposers were imprisoned in the island of Ventotene, west of Rome. These opposers, were mainly intellectuals. They drafted a very important document, called the Manifesto of Ventotene, preparing the way for a peaceful and united Europe. Already in March 1957, 6 European countries signed the Treaty of Rome, establishing the first milestone for the European Union.
The idea of Altiero Spinelli and his Ventotene fellows was to proceed to the United States of Europe.

Unfortunately this has not happened yet. However one of the results was that Europe had no wars for over 70 years and peacefully increased economic relationships and finally a common currency.
Now Britain has left the European Union by decision of its citizens, leading the way for a time of more constructed decisions. Their choice was division, ours must be union.

To be sure, a reform of the European apparatus is overdue, and we are fighting for streamlining of the procedures as well as the birth of a first political bond between a few countries, such as a common Foreign affairs Ministry, a common Ministry of Defense, and a common Ministry of Interior, that would greatly ease the antiterrorism fight.

Subsequently we wish the European Parliament to have more power and oversee the European Commission.
European citizens are waking up to these problems, some of them want out of the European Union, but they don’t really know what that means, others like us, are getting more involved in the new construction than in the destruction of this building.

Our common home has some water leakages, we have to decide if we want to repair and strengthen it, or we prefer to destroy it altogether. it’s time for action from us all.

What is the exact aim?

The goal would be to push the European Commission to engage in building a more unified European Union, and if possible a Federal State. We do not expect to have a Federal State right away, but we hope that this petition can convince the European Commission to work in this direction.

Who can vote?

Every citizen from the current European Union should vote and express their voice. This is an important matter that need to be addressed by all of us.

How many votes are we aiming for?

We are aiming for as many votes as possible. Since this petition is on a European scale, it would be advisable to attain at least 5 million voters.

How do we spread the word?

Share the petition on the social media (Facebook, Twitter, wherever you can). If you have friends that live in another European country send it personally to them so they can begin to share it en their own country. It is important that the citizens of every European country get to vote, from Italy to Lithuania, and from Germany to Greece.

Why is it important to do this now?

The vote made in the United Kingdom was made out of fear and misinformation. The world seems paralyzed in fear right now, after the terrorist attacks and now the Brexit. This is exactly the time when we should stand united for a common cause, taking steps towards a more united future rather than reverting to an old divided past.
