Raising awareness for budget cuts to police department in SA

Raising awareness for budget cuts to police department in SA
The Issue
We are a group of 3rd year chiropractic students and we received an assignment to raise awareness for any form of inequality that we would like to discuss. As a group of females our main concern and one that we are passionate about is gender-based violence and we specifically looked at the role of the justice system in gender-based violence.
While doing our research we came across the budget cuts for the police department: a 0,8% decrease from R99,6 billion in 2020/21 to R97,1 billion in 2021/23. This was concerning to us in that we were already aware of the 14% of reported cases and only 7% success rate for victims of GBV to receive justice through sentencing of the perpetrators. Visible policing will be decreased by R4 billion making the already concerning safety of all worse.
We hope that we can raise awareness and that someone sees this and helps us with a solution.
