Per Chula Vista Municipal Code, for residential properties, there are to be no structures of any kind in the first 20 feet of the property line.  This is called a required setback.  Although the building code also dictates that landscaping can be permanently attractive which includes decorative fencing.  Citizens of Chula Vista should be allowed to have shade sails constructed in their front yards.  These structures provide shade without additional lumber or fire hazard that a patio or pergola.  This shade sail would enable homeowners to protect cars, the exterior of their homes, lower energy bills, and provide a higher quality of life for people to enjoy their outdoor space that Californians pay a high premium to live in.
