Citizens for Northampton County Animal Shelter

The Issue

The frequent occurrence of stray animals and the lack of a designated shelter located in Northampton County remains a pressing concern for many of us—indeed, it is a concern directly impacting my life. From personal experience, I know the distress it causes not only to the animals but also to the residents who worry for their safety, and the safety of these creatures.

Furthermore, the absence of Animal Control Officers on weekends in both Northampton and Accomack Counties significantly impairs the management of animal-related issues. Not only does this risk endangering the public, it illustrates a glaring lack in our community's ability to ensure the welfare of our animals. It is clear that both counties need access to these services seven days a week. This ensures these are situations addressed humanely and promptly.

Across the U.S., it has been found that proper animal control and shelter services play a critical role in safe and humane communities. They not only provide care for stray and unowned animals, but also support responsible pet ownership education.

Now, we call on the authorities to step in. We urge you to require Northampton County to construct its own animal shelter and extend the availability of Animal Control Officers in both Northampton and Accomack Counties throughout the entire week. In doing so, you would be safeguarding the welfare of our residents and animals alike.
