Callie Ferencak started this petition to Cincinnati Public Schools

Cincinnati Public Schools is currently having school virtually because of COVID-19, and as such they are using Schoology as their main learning platform. Schoology has the option to allow students to set a Preferred Name that can show up on their profile, but CPS has DISABLED this option. This is devastating for transgender and gender non-conforming students, who would traditionally be able to ask their teachers and classmates to use a different name for them. However, because almost all communication is through Schoology, teachers and other students only see the student's legal name.

By not allowing transgender students to go by their preferred name, CPS is actively harming these students' mental health and self esteem, as it has been shown that transgender students who are not able to go by their preferred name and pronouns are more likely to have mental health issues than cisgender students ( https://news.utexas.edu/2018/03/30/name-use-matters-for-transgender-youths-mental-health/ ).

If Cincinnati Public Schools truly cares about their trans and gender non-conforming students like they say they do, they will enable the option for students to set a preferred name in Schoology.
