As a regular litter-picker and unfortunate neighbour of a newsagent, I have become aware that a large quantity of the litter that ends up in hedges, gutters and parks are the single-use plastic film packaging from cigarette packets and tobacco. Unlike some food and drink products, it is no longer reasonable that this plastic is necessary, or that huge profit-making companies such as cigarette manufacturers should not find biodegradable alternatives. 

The petition picture is of ONLY the cigarette and tobacco litter picked from JUST my front garden today. I will keep collecting these through the year from my garden and drive to highlight the extent of the problem. Of course, people shouldn't litter, but companies need to take better responsibility for the rubbish they are creating. 

There are viable sustainable alternatives to this plastic if it is deemed necessary at all, and companies must use some of their extensive profits to source these.
