Cancel the IB exams May 2021

The Issue

Recently, there has been news that school districts have the choice in whether or not to cancel the IB exams for their school. Many students believe Harrison should cancel the exams for numerous reasons, mostly revolving around the pandemic and the subsequent strange learning environment.

We are living through a pandemic where everyone is affected in different ways. Students are all receiving a different learning experience than in the past, making absorbing key knowledge more difficult for everyone. Some people learn from home while some people learn in school, creating discrepancies between students' understanding of the content. The asynchronous days are drastically different than learning directly from the teacher, due to the inability to directly interact or ask questions. The students want to proudly represent Harrison, but the only way to accomplish that is as a whole. We cannot represent Harrison when everyone is learning differently, making testing unfair. Not everyone has a stable environment when learning from home, making learning and studying, as well as other things, a challenge. The past year has caused an immense amount of stress on students, staff, and parents; the IB exams would build on that stress drastically as well as taking away our already limited time for learning. These are only a few of the reasons why the IB exams should be canceled. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I hope you take our concerns into serious consideration when signing this petition.
