I've lived in Vale, North Carolina my entire life, and Christmas has always held a special place in my heart. Every year, seeing the grand, real Christmas tree standing tall downtown always filled me with a sense of pride similar to what one might feel when looking at the famous Rockefeller tree. It was a beautiful centerpiece for our town and a testament to our festive spirit.

This year, however, and a few years past, Lincolnton's Christmas tree has been replaced with a plastic cone version, and it just doesn't carry the same magic. The sight of the artificial tree is a stark contrast to the lush and vibrant real ones we've enjoyed in past years. My 3-year-old son, who shares my enthusiasm for the holiday season, would be flabbergasted to see a real tree standing there instead of the plastic cone currently in place.

Lincolnton deserves a Christmas tree that reflects the vibrant and lively spirit of our community. Real Christmas trees not only enhance the festive atmosphere but also create a connection to nature and tradition that a plastic tree simply cannot replicate. Moreover, supporting local tree farms by purchasing a natural tree contributes to the local economy and keeps our holiday practices sustainable.

I urge the town council of Lincolnton to reconsider this decision and bring back a real Christmas tree to grace our town square.
