CHRISTIANSBURG INSTITUTE IS VIRGINIA STATE HISTORY AND A NATIONAL TREASURE

CHRISTIANSBURG INSTITUTE IS VIRGINIA STATE HISTORY AND A NATIONAL TREASURE
The Issue
The Virginia Landmark & Historic Edgar A. Long Building (EAL) is one of the last remaining structures located on C.I.I.'s former school campus in Christiansburg, Virginia.
In 2020, we completed Phase 1 of our historic preservation work at the EAL building; - entirely brand new roof system, - attic sub-floor, - framing, - fascia, - new gutter system and downspouts. Additionally, Phase 1 involved the total demolition of all three non-original gables on the structure, effectively restoring the roof-line to its historic appearance when it was built in 1927.
Despite successful capital fundraising efforts and completion of Phase 1 at the EAL building, the equitable restoration of the Edgar A. Long Building has again been neglected and structurally disenfranchised from accessing critically needed state preservation resources.
