In 1974, The Wizard aka Ian Brackenbury Channell migrated to Christchurch in New Zealand and began to speak on a ladder in Cathedral Square. The city council attempted to have him arrested, but he became so popular that they made the square a public speaking area.

As of October 2021, the Christchurch Council has ended its contract with The Wizard.

Where’s his popular support among the public now? Where’s that kiwi spark that stopped him being arrested and made him popular? We need that back.

The Christchurch City Council has fired The Wizard after over 20 years of public service. Over a satire and possibly scripted joke on a satire TV show, and the fact that Christchurch wants to become more “modernized”.

We’re kiwis! We don’t care about modern! We don’t care at all, is the point! Bring him back. Show the council and government what kiwis really are, laid back, fun loving, joke having, kiwis.

The Wizard said in a statement that he believes his office is being canceled because it no longer “vibes” with the city. He said his ousting “implies that I am boring and old.”

“It’s just they don’t like me because they are boring old bureaucrats and everyone likes me and no one likes them,’’ he said.
