Overturn the ruling which gives Levi Bellfield £4,500 compensation

The Issue

The 21st of March, 2002, a 13 year old girl by the name of Milly Dowler was abducted in Walton-On-Thames, and the police name their suspect Mr. Levi Bellfield. Ten months later, on January 8th in 2003, 16 year old Jesse Wilson is attacked by someone weilding a hammer in Strawberry Hill, Southwest London, and police believed that someone to be Levi Bellfield.

A few short weeks go by before February 4th, 2003, sees 19 year old Marsha Mcdonnell bludgeoned to death close to her home in Hampton, Southwest London. Again, the perpetrator was Levi Bellfield. Then, just nine days before Christmas, on the 16th of December also in 2003, Irma Dragoshi, 39, is attacked at Longford Village and Levi Bellfield is charged with attempted murder. Due to a jury failing to reach a verdict, Mr. Bellfield was free to go and went on to seriously injure Kate Sheedy, 18, when she crossed the road close by the entrance to an industrial estate on May 8th in 2004. Not three months go by before a 22 year old French exchange student, Amelie Delagrange, is murdered on her walk home in Twickenham on August 19th 2004.

Mr. Levi Bellfield was not arrested until November the 22nd 2004. He is a serial killer that was long overdue to receive the life sentence handed to him on the 26th of February 2008, along with the deserved recommendation that he never be released. Given the evidence of these brutal attacks upon women, one could not be accused of an overactive imagination to think Levi Bellfield has the blood of many other victims on his hands. Indeed, the police themselves think him to be involved with many unsolved murders and attacks pre-dating 1990, well before his infamy became documented for the world to see.

Of the six victims we know of, only two of them survived, with Marsha Mcdonnell dying in hospital from her injuries within 48 hours of the attack. What saved Miss Kate Sheedy was her 'presence of mind,' as stated by The Telegraph. Levi Bellfield ran her over with his car, a Vauxhaul Corsa, not once, but twice. After the wheel went over her, with her back being torn open by the undercarriage, he put the car into reverse, and went over her again. Other injuries sustained by Miss Sheedy include her liver being split into two, broken collar bone, one lung collapsed and the other punctured by several broken ribs.

The other survivor, Miss Jesse Wilson, sustained massive head and facial injuries, and still needed medical treatment on her jaw five years after being attacked and left for dead. We must also not forget that police believe Levi Bellfield may well be the answer to other unsolved murders and attacks, such as the attack on Sonia Vitierra on the 5th of November in 2002. He has also been linked to the murder of a 14 year old girl in 1980, when he was but 12 years old.

Justice, it seems, has failed these women and girls on every occasion, with lawyers and police laying blame at the feet of the other. Now there has been a final insult to those he killed and attacked, and their families.

Levi Bellfield, serial killer and imprisoned for life with no chance of release, has been awarded £4,500 compensation for an attack by another inmate. He has suffered minor facial injuries due to a makeshift weapon being used upon his person, and he has in turn sued the Ministry of Justice, stating prison staff did not protect him better. According to The Express online, a source close to the 45 year old murderer states:

"He's angry that prison guards let him in that part of the prison. He says that by putting him in that wing, it was asking for an attack to happen."

No criminal, especially one of Levi Bellfield's calibre, should have rights to compensation in any way, shape, or form, and for him to be granted £4,500 from the public purse is a sheer disgrace. So we the undersigned ask you, the Secretary of State for Justice The Right Honourable Mr. Christopher Grayling, to overturn the judge's ruling and prevent Levi Bellfield from receiving any monetary compensation at all on the grounds that he does not deserve such consideration.

If Levi Bellfield is allowed this reward after his unprovoked attacks and killings, then will all other serial killers and violent offenders be allowed such? To allow this man the right to monetary compensation is nothing but a slap in the face to the public and particularly the families of his victims, for they as taxpayers, will be contributing to this.

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely, The Undersigned.
