Give Seaford and Newhaven trains - we want a return to our half-hourly timetable ASAP
The Issue
The Seaford-Brighton train service has been cut from 79 trains a day to 15 trains a day almost overnight with no confirmed timeline for reinstating them. This means over 40,000 people will face much longer journeys or be unable to travel on the rail network. It particularly affects commuters and the elderly/young/disabled who can't drive - it's not just inconvenience: the rail problems to date are already affecting livelihoods, mental health, family relationships, the local economy and tourism. The reduced timetable is making this significantly worse and reversing regeneration efforts in the area.
An 81% cut indefinitely is not acceptable. We demand a timeline for a return to our half-hourly timetable is made public. The Department of Transport must recognise the seriousness of this situation and take action on our behalf.
