Child predators aren’t the only ones destroying lives. Those who cover for them must face

Child predators aren’t the only ones destroying lives. Those who cover for them must face
The Issue
This is more than a call for a new law. It’s the outcry of a heartbroken wife and mother — a plea for justice from a family forever changed.
My husband, Iman Shabazz, was struck by a car and placed on life support. While fighting for his life, our young son found the courage to reveal an unthinkable truth — that Ashante Maurice Deaton, a relative, had been sexually abusing him for years.
Instead of protecting our child, my husband’s family protected the predator. They bailed out Ashante Deaton, silenced the truth, and even removed my husband from the hospital — isolating him in a nursing home to stop him from speaking to his sons or defending his family. While hidden away and denied the care he needed, Iman suffered and died from neglect at Windsor Care Center in Sacramento, California.
Those responsible are still walking free.
They weren’t just bystanders — they were accomplices. They chose to hide evil instead of exposing it.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 34% of child sexual abuse cases involve family members, and another 59% involve acquaintances. That means most predators are protected by people who already know the truth — people who should be held accountable.
We are calling for new legislation that brings justice not only to abusers, but to those who knowingly hide their crimes, obstruct justice, or silence victims. Enabling a predator is a crime — and the law must finally treat it that way.
Please sign this petition to help protect children and families everywhere.
Stand with us to make it clear: if you protect a predator, you are one too.
