Chief Minister of Rajasthan: Appeal for intervention to save state's only Fine Arts Institute, Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur from destruction.
The Issue
Rajasthan School of Art is a only Govt. Fine Art Institution in Rajasthan. Institution has a glorious history; it is started in 1857 by Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Ram Singh II to teach art, craft and architecture. At present the Institution is offering professional courses, 4 year Bachelor degree BVA and 2 year PG course MVA in 3 professional streams ie painting applied arts and sculpture affiliated with University of Rajasthan.
For these two courses Rajasthan School of art is following UGC syllabus. According to UGC guidelines (Report of the Curriculum Development Committee in Visual Arts, 2001) Lecturers of visual arts must have 4 year bachelor degree and 2 year post graduation in fine arts. Candidate of general M.A. (Drawing & Painting) is not eligible for the post of Lecturer in fine art institution where profession course in visual arts is running. But in Rajasthan School of Art most of Lecturers qualification is M.A. in Drawing & Painting from general stream (2 year program). They have transferred by Directorate of College Education, from the colleges that have M.A. courses in Drawing & Painting.
All students are suffering due to those unqualified Lecturers, they are studying in BVA (4 Year) and MVA (2 year) professional courses but the qualification of Lecturers who are teaching them is M. A. (2 Year) Drawing and Painting.
The Institution requires immediate attention from Govt. of Rajasthan. This is the only Fine Art Institution of Rajasthan, a state famous for its art, architecture and culture. Please join me in telling Chief Minister of Rajasathan, Shri Ashok Gehlot to stop the transfer of unqualified Lecturers in Rajasthan School of Art and save the future of fine art students.
