Restrict Kannada as a compulsory language to Primary school level

As parents of children studying in CBSE/ICSE schools in Karnataka, we have been informed that as per the law passed in Karnataka Legislature, Kannada has to be compulsorily imparted as first or second language till Class X, starting with students in Class I and II this academic year.
While we appreciate the effort to ensure that we have a working knowledge of the language of the state, imposing it as a compulsory first or second language across all boards till Class X restricts the mobility of citizens of the country and imposes a huge burden on the children. Making the local language a mandatory subject till class V is acceptable and even welcome.
Imagine the plight of children who move into the state few years from now and are a year or two from appearing for Class X. Is it even practical to expect them to learn a language from scratch and appear for a board exam?
If every state starts this kind of policy, it will impede mobility and growth, apart from infringing on rights of Indian Citizen to move freely across the country in pursuit of profession. We do not want to end up in a situation where our children are 'Multi Linguists' but not equipped to talk or write on any subject!
