A metro station should be named on Shankar Nag, the first to propose metro for Bangalore
The Issue
Shankar Nag is the first among the very few visionaries who thought of bringing Metro to Bangalore. Actor and director Shankar Nag had conceptualized about having a Metro Rail in Bangalore in the 1980's. It is believed that he did a survey of a metro rail service in Malaysia and Tokyo. In the 80's Shankar Nag spend almost 9 lakhs from his own pocket to collect the designs, to understand how metro works and when the idea of it was proposed to Karnataka government, it was rejected or dismissed for some reason. After almost 35 years, as a part of urbanisation Metro was implemented. One thing about a visionary is that they think about the necessity of the future, and that is most neglected as not many think in the same way.
Shankara was a man with a vision. He had big dreams. He was an actor who loved the stage but he dreamt big for his city and that if he was alive today he would have become the chief minister of Karnataka.
He had even met with Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde and his successor SR Bommai as well. He had presented blueprints and the plan to build a metro network in Bengaluru about 30 years back but unfortunately he died in a tragic accident soon and all these plans and his vision for a better Bengaluru died with him. As a tribute to his visionary like intellect, at least one metro station can be named after him.
Let's make this happen.
