Dr. D Babu Paul, IAS - The man behind the Idukki Hydro electric project. When the Government of India was about to abandon the project, the then Chief Minister Achutha Menon called upon a young 30 year old boy to lead the project and that was Dr. D. Babu Paul. His peers remember him as an archetype of a committed bureaucrat whose crowning point in professional life came unusually early in his career as project coordinator of the Idukki hydroelectric project and District Collector (1971-75). It later became part of IAS lore that the then Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon had hand-picked Dr. Paul to expedite the faltering archdam project, and the young bureaucrat achieved his target with a mix of tact, drive and engineering skills. In 1980s he was the one who envisioned Vallarpadom Project. In 1990s, he was instrumental in coining the term Gods Own Country and is known as Father of Kerala Tourism. After he retired, he set up Kerala State Civil Service Academy and is currently known as one of the best in India

In memory of him and all the work he has contributed to Kerala, we request the Honble Chief Minister of Kerala to rename the project as Dr. D Babu Paul Hydro Electric Project, Idukki
