The Sri Ram Sene is a right-wing extremist group led by Pramod Muthalik.
Muthalik and Sri Ram Sene is notorious for attacking women and people they think are against Indian culture. In the past they have attacked noted painters and civil rights activist in India to further their agenda of right wing ideologies.
In January 2009 Sri Ram Sene attacked girls in a pub in Mangalore, India. A group of 40 activists of the Sri Rama Sena barged into the pub "Amnesia — The Lounge" and beat up a group of young women and men, claiming the women were violating traditional Indian values. Two of the women (Shanky Shah and Shahnawaz Khan) were hospitalised. At that time Pramod Muthalik praised his men saying girls going to pubs is not acceptable and beating up of women was the right thing to do.
And now, the Sri Ram Sene wants to open offices across Goa. During the recently held All India Hindu convention at Ramnathi, Pramod Muthalik, announced that through the Sena, he would try to curb the western culture of nightclubs and pubs.
As a resident of Goa, I do not want my state to become a graveyard for free minded people and secular ethics. Goa is known for its easy going culture, the freedom it gives to tourists visiting this beach paradise and for being a secular state. Shri Ram Sene is not a youth group but rather a rightwing extremist group.
I am calling on Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parikkar not to allow Sri Ram Sene to open branch in Goa. Extremists have no place in our state.
