Chief Commissioner Shane Patton - Investigate The Criminal Assault On Angus Brayshaw
The issue
On September 7th at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last year, a Collingwood Football player Brayden Maynard ran towards Melbourne football player Angus Brayshaw (Gus) and, by jumping in the air, made a collision with Gus inevitable. This collision knocked Gus out and exacerbated previous concussions to cause brain damage which has ended his playing career.
Later that evening, Maynard made the following confession on Foxnews:
"I came forward, I jumped to smother the ball and unfortunately I just got him on the way down."
This is a confession of a deliberate assault.
"I just got him ...."
Those were his words. As if knocking an opponent unconscious is nothing.
When we look at the footage, what we see is a "shirt front". A relic of a more violent football past.
The collision was not an accident. It was an inevitable consequence of Maynard's purposeful actions.
Brayshaw's brother Hamish was profoundly traumatised by the results of this assault writing publicly to the AFL: "...... my brother's brain is going to be f-d the rest of his life ......."
Chief Commissioner Patton, you have human rights responsibilities towards all people traumatised by this blatant act of thuggery disguised as sport.
Gus is a beautiful human being. A man of Ned Kelly proportions?
The trauma suffered by Gus's brother is heart breaking.
Brayden Maynard ought to be given a chance to come clean and plead guilty.
Chief Commissioner Patton, please do your job.
Uphold what's right.
