Convince Chick-Fil-A to Stop Using Styrofoam Cups!
The Issue
Chick-Fil-A claims to be a family company, however their company uses styrofoam cups to house their delicious sweet tea and freshly squeezed sugar free lemonade, as well as their delectable hand spun milkshakes. On a more serious note, styrofoam cups and other polystyrene products are made from petroleum, a non-sustainable and heavily polluting resource. Also, the manufacturing of styrofoam and similar products releases hydrocarbons into the environment at ground level, proving a serious cause of air pollution and the depletion of the ozone layer. When dropped as litter, this material breaks up into pieces that chokes animals and clog their digestive systems when consumed. While styrofoam is recyclable, most recycling agencies in the US do not accept polystyrene products. Many cities and counties such as Taiwan, Portland, OR, and Orange County, CA have even gone so far as to outlaw polystyrene foam.
Instead of using harmful styrofoam products for their cups, we urge Chick-Fil-A to consider using post consumer products or other easily renewable resources such as bamboo, corn plastics or products that are biodegradable when composted.
