Chewy Needs to End Their Partnership with FedEx

The Issue

How many of us have stories of FedEx leaving our Chewy boxes on someone else's porch? How many of us have then found out that FedEx is either impossible to reach or completely unhelpful in finding where the driver actually left those boxes and retrieving them?

In local community social media groups, there are DAILY posts from people whose package delivery picture shows someone else's porch at some unknown location. Once in a while, people are able to connect through those groups and get the packages where they belong, but most of the time, the customer is left with no recourse.

In the case of Chewy packages, these contain food, medicine, and life-enriching items for our beloved pets. Delays in receiving those packages could mean a pet not getting life-saving medicines or prescription foods or calming treats or other items that are needed ON TIME. Chewy is great about replacing shipments, but the delay can be stressful or possibly even dangerous, in the case of prescriptions. It's also a huge hassle for customers.

FedEx, in most markets, hires contractors to deliver packages. These contractors often pay their drivers poorly and set unreasonable delivery standards, leading to frequent turnover. Drivers don't know the routes, and they're actually incentivized under this system to just drop packages anywhere to meet their stats for the day.

Other carriers provide better service, are direct employers of their drivers, and their drivers are rewarded for going above and beyond. These are drivers who know their routes because they've been working them for a long time. They know the customers on those routes and do things like knock on the door and bring large packages inside for disabled or elderly customers. They care because the company they work for cares for them and about service.

Chewy, you can do so much better! Your loyal customers are finding alternatives because of these shipping issues. The carrier you work with reflects on your business. Right now, that mirror image isn't looking very good.
