Chesterfield County Animals Set to Die!
The Issue
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Well here we are again. After 7 years of 95-98% save rate the shelter animals are being threatened with time constraints.
On June 2 council council will be implementing out of date policies of euthanasia. That would be to euthanize any dog that’s been there 21 days and pit bulls could be euthanized just after 7 days regardless of space.
Many of you remember when shockwaves hit the county and the sheriffs department was allegedly shooting dogs at the shelter the community banded together to make change.
If this happens it will be a travesty and frankly makes no sense. The shelter has an almost $500k budget which allows for ample staff and intake vetting. With ample staff to care for clean, Medicate, feed and quarantine all animals if they’re following proper protocols.
The shelter volunteers (who have all been kicked out) worked hard to build a large network of rescue partners who pull weekly.
The shelter building is only 4 years old and has space to house a total of 100 dogs or 50 indoor kennels.
One of the volunteers had set up a food program and the Shelter gets all food donated.
The shelter had a multitude of volunteers that network the dogs and cats, spend time socializing them and do fundraisers for their medical care.
Most dogs had rescue within 3-5 days
The shelter manager at the time formed a partnership with No Kill South Carolina in 2016.
Since the director took over in 2012 the shelter has maintained a 97-98% save rate.
The shelter had a local vet who loves the animals as if they were her own. She has arranged low cost shot clinics for the community.
There was a voucher program for the community for spay/neuter to help those who can’t afford spay/neuter.
Why on earth would we turn back time and put term limits on these animals lives. Their people who surrendered them, dumped them have failed them already.
It’s our job to save them not fail them again.
I implore you to help us help them. Please sign the petition and share to everyone you know. There is zero reason after all these years of hard work to go back to killing innocent animals for no reason.
You can also contact the county council members and county admin and ask them to PLEASE reconsider.
