Chess Peters Memorial Skate Park
Chess Peters Memorial Skate Park
The Issue
We are petitioning the City of Westminster California Department of Parks & Recreations Board, to change the name of only the SKATE PARK portion of Liberty Park to The Chess Peters Memorial Skate Park to honor Chess Peters' memory.
Chess Dillon Peters, born Chelsea Dillon Peters, was only 20 years old, when a car accident claimed his life Friday night. Authorities said he was struck by a man as it attempted to make a left turn and sent Chess' car into a light pole. Chess Peters was driving a Toyota Corolla on Bolsa Chica Road. As he approached Loyola Ave, the 78-year-old driver of a Mercury sedan turned left into the intersection, striking Peters' car. The Toyota veered off the road and collided with a light pole.
Skateboarding was more then just a hobby for Chess, it was a passion, almost a necessity, much like breathing. He and his friends spent a lot of time at the skate park inside Liberty Park in Westminster Ca.
After his death, in order to preserve his memory, his mom (Eva) and dad (Duane), organized for a tree to be planted at Liberty Park near the skate park. There was a lot of people who attended and took part on July 6th 2008, in what has become now known as a "Chess Peters Day" celebration of Chess' Life. Family, friends, and fellow skaters who may not have even known Chess, showed there love and support with an afternoon in the park complete with lunch, the sharing of pictures and stories, the releasing of red and green balloons at noon which was followed by a Chess Peters Skate off.
As we are approaching the 5 year anniversary of Chess Peters Day, and due to the overwhelming number of people that have been touched by Chess in some way, what better way to honor his memory then to name the one places he loved to be more then anywhere, the skate park located inside Liberty Park, after him.
PLEASE HELP US INSURE THAT CHELSEA "CHESS" PETERS WILL NOT ONLY BE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS BUT ALSO FOREVER A PART OF A PLACE WHICH HE HELD VERY DEAR TO HIS HEART!!! RENAME THE SKATE PARK AT LIBERTY PARK "CHESS PETERS MEMORIAL SKATE PARK."
